APPLICATION WITH A SPRAY GUN

See a video at the bottom of this page that explains the step-by-step application of Cool-FX.

Shake or stir before use. Mix Cool-FX with clean water according to the desired concentration. Mix well until a homogeneous liquid is obtained. The spray-ready liquid can be sprayed with standard spraying equipment. Clean spraying equipment thoroughly with water after use.

Our coatings are easy to apply manually. Manual applications can be done with equipment ranging from a backpack sprayer for smaller areas to professional pump-sets. The most important item for a manual application is an adjustable spray gun to ensure even coverage while still being able to reach far enough. The result depends on the weather conditions, the worker’s workmanship and the characteristics of the equipment used. The spray gun set should comprise a diaphragm pump with a minimum pumping capacity of 40 l/min, sufficient hose length and an adjustable spray gun to reach all parts of the roof.

UNIFORM DISTRIBUTION

If the application is done correctly, the coating will flow into a homogenous layer. The challenge is to evenly distribute the product. This requires a balance between the speed of walking, the dilution of the spraying solution and the setting of the spray gun. When an operator has insufficient experience working with a spray gun it may be better to bring one or two extra buckets in case of spillage. Pay special attention to the level of porosity of the surface. A high level of porosity will make the surface gobble up the coating.

Surface type Concentration Area in m2 per bucket
Smooth surface 1 to 3 300
Porous surface 1 to 3 250
Very porous surface 1 to 2 ≤200

(Concentration: 1 part Cool-FX to # parts of water)

*In the case of a corrugated roof, bear in mind that the surface area increases as the depth of the corrugation increases.

*In the case of a sloping roof, you might need a lower dilution (between 1 to 2 and 1 to 3), to avoid the coating from flowing of the roof to quickly.

WEATHER CONDITIONS AFFECT QUALITY

  • Apply the coating to a clean and dry surface to obtain the best wear resistance.
  • Apply the coating during dry weather with relative humidity < 80% on a dry surface. A wet surface cover dilutes the layer. When the drying time is too long this may cause excessive run-off and therefore an uneven coating.
  • Keep an eye on the weather forecast. Do not apply during precipitation or when precipitation is forecast over the short-term (within 12 hours). Rain damages a coating that has not yet totally dried.
  • Apply at a temperature between 5 and 30 degrees Celsius. Otherwise the drying time will be too long and the coating will be wet during the night and may become damaged due to condensation.
  • Do not apply when windy (max. 7 km/hour). The layer may become too thin and overspray may occur.
